Athlete Qualification Criteria:

Age and Participation

  • Must be a student-athlete between grades 7–12 (or equivalent, ages 12–18).
  • Must participate in an organized school or club athletic program.
  • Must demonstrate intent to pursue athletic development or recruiting opportunities (e.g., college visits, showcases, or travel teams).

Academic Standards

To ensure athletes are committed to both academics and athletics:

  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Exceptions can be made with a coach or counselor’s recommendation if there are extenuating circumstances (e.g., learning differences, family hardship).

Character and Commitment

Applicants must:

  • Demonstrate good citizenship, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Provide a coach’s recommendation confirming effort, attitude, and athletic potential.
  • Commit to attending all funded events (camps, training, or recruiting visits) as scheduled.

Residency

Must reside in the state of Minnesota.

Open the Door Athletics will cover specific costs such as:

  1. Recruiting Visits – Game Days, Junior Days, unofficial visits (travel, lodging, meals)
  2. Camps – Skill or showcase camps (entry fees, travel, gear)
  3. Training – Off-season or private training sessions, strength and conditioning, performance coaching
  4. Travel Teams – Participation fees, uniforms, travel expenses

Application Documentation

Applicants should submit:

  • Completed Application Form (with parent/guardian signature).
  • Most recent report card or transcript.
  • Proof of household income (e.g., tax return, W-2, or school lunch program eligibility).
  • Coach recommendation form.
  • Short personal statement (“How this opportunity would impact my athletic goals”).
